School Restrooms 101

Poor design, maintenance can lead to misbehavior, vandalism and accidents.School Restrooms 101

A great article in a recent issue of School Planning & Management magazine discusses how a renewed focus on student health and campus safety has schools considering renovations to existing bathrooms, or the construction of all new student restrooms.

Among the many great ideas offered by author Paula Worthing, principal of PLDA, Inc., were:

  • Plumbing fixtures that make cleaning easier
  • Non-absorbent wall finishes
  • Floor finishes that provide traction, but are easy to clean
  • Grid ceilings treated with antimicrobial agents
  • Thinking antimicrobial for entrance and egress

What caught our attention was the advice to choose composite or phenolic stall partitions.  We would add the solid surface privacy partitions can be another solid alternative:

  • Solid Surface Partitions - PromegaInherently antimicrobial
  • Durable
  • Vandal resistant and easily cleaned/restored
  • Rustproof

Photo: Our BioPrism® Privacy Partitions are antimicrobial and non-porous so they do not support the growth of mold, mildew or bacteria. They are also graffiti resistant and can be cleaned without ghosting.
